Getting Started

Welcome to #Kethmar. We're an always open roleplaying game that uses modified version 3.0 d20 system RPG rules.

If you are new to roleplaying games, Here is a great little intro that we suggest reading.
If you're familiar with the 3.0 d20 system game rules, GREAT. If you aren't, that's okay, too. They aren't too hard to learn and we'll help you out in a number of ways until you find your footing, plus you can conduct basic roleplaying even without being an expert with them. here is a link to the 3.0 SRD so that you can brush up on your knowledge of game mechanics, if you desire.
In either case you will probably want to look at our rules here and setting information here. especially our setting summary, which is here .

Once you're a little familiar with Kethmar it's time to create an acount, which can be done here. You may be asked what your "GMT offset" is. It's just how many hours time diffrence you are from GMT ( Eastern time is GMT -5 and pacific is GMT -8, for example ). If it still doesn't make sense, don't worry, its not realy that important anyhow, and you can change it later if you like.
We also suggest that you register for our forums, which you can do here.

Now it's time to make a character. If you're comfortable with D&D just use our simle web interface and build a character here. Keep in mind that mages, clerics, druids, and paladins ( as well as evil characters and unusual races) require pre-approval to make. If you need help making a character, just skip this step for now and log into Kethmar and ask for assstance making a character in our OOC channel.

Now it's time to log into #Kethmar and start playing. If you are familair with IRC, just load up your IRC client and connect to Darkmyst ( irc.darkmyst.org) and join #kethmar_ooc ( our out of character talk channel) and #kethmar ( our primary RP room). We have other channels ( such as #Kethmar_quest and #kethmar_wilderness ), but those two are the most important.
If you don't currently have an IRC client and are using a Windows based PC we suggest you download mirc here

For mac users, a popular Macintosh based IRC client can be downloaded here

If you are unable to use an irc client, you can try using the darkmyst chat to connect. just click here to Connect to #Kethmar via Darkmyst Chat. We do reccomend that you use a real IRC client if possible, as you will have a better experience in Kethmar.

However you choose to connect to #Kethmar, once you are there remember to log into our channel bot by typing /msg kardale !login (character name) (password) . For example, if your character is named Teeks and your account (for the site not the message board) password is J294v7r you would type: /msg kardale !login teeks j294v7r

To roll dice just type in !r (number of dice)d(# of sides on the die)+N ( where N is the number added to the roll. this last part is optional.) To roll one 20 sided die the command is !r 1d20. To roll two four sided dice with 5 added to them, the command is !r 2d4+5. Note that you can roll dice in PM to the bot, but we still ask that you not roll dice without reason. For other bot related commands type /msg Kardale !help

Congradulatons, you're all set up and are ready to begin roleplaying. See you there!
